Tiberias, The Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights
Located along the western shore of the Sea of Galilee ('Lake
Kinerret in Hebrew'), Tiberias, named in honour of the emperor Tiberius,
has a long been a favorite health resort and pilgrimage destination over
the time. The city lies on a mountain slope; beautifully looking over
Golan Heights at the other side of the Lake. Tiberias is a mix of a crystal-clear
lake and mountain terrain making the sourounding very appealing to tourists.
The Sea of Galilee attracts thousands of visitors thanks to Tiberias's
rich history and pastoral view. Tiberias has become one of Israel's most
popular resorts in the northern half of the country, being situated on
the Sea of Galilee, adjacent to the famous hot springs of Tiberias.
Tiberias is rich in religious history both for Jews and Christians. Tiberias
is one of the four Jewish Holy Cities in Israel, as well as a pilgrimage
destination for the Christians who believe that Jesus was baptized and
walked on the Water. Both Christians and Jews refer many episodes to the
Sea of Galilee, such as the Multiplication of the Loaves and the Walking
on the Waters
The shores of the Sea of Galilee are dotted with trees and green lawns,
and the waters of the lake are pleasantly clear and cool. The water is
great for everything you could possibly want to do: swimming, windsurfing,
sailing or angling don't come any better than this. Families enjoy the
rowing boats, pedals and motor boats. Tourists also enjoy beautiful weather
and are bustling with activity throughout the year, making Tiberias a
holiday destination for all seasons.
